MATERIALS & PROCESS
HARDWARE
A meal without a fork is like a building without a hinge. Hardware in traditional architecture serves both powerful aesthetic and functional purposes that can make or break the woodwork.
Brass and bronze are honest, durable materials that express both elegance and gritty purposefulness. Quality hardware that’s correctly shaped and positioned invites users to enjoy the architecture.
Stripping, cleaning, lubricating, tumbling, and polishing make up 75% what we do to historic hardware. Our hardware library, built from years of salvage and auction finds, sources from much of DC’s best architectural antiques dealers, including The Brass Knob. Combined with our machine shop and forge, we have the power to handle that last 25%.
We cast brass, bronze, aluminum, and lead and iron, entirely in-house. Just this year, we’re adding a 50-ton vintage press break to this formidable subset of metal working.

GLASS & GLAZING
This company offers more types of glass work than any specialty shop I know. We work with leaded, insulated, laminated, annealed, poured, and cast glass for in-house projects. We conserve all “wavy” glass for reuse and collaborate with Hollander International, Bendheim, and Artisan Glass Works for mouth blown and “restoration glass”.
We’re also in the process of expanding our glass studio and experimenting with thick structural and ornamental glass techniques.
